Henri Anier is the ambassador of the UEFA Under-17 Championship finals

News

The ambassador of the upcoming UEFA European Under-17 Championship finals, taking place in May and June in Tallinn and Rakvere, is long-time Estonia men’s national team striker Henri Anier.

Anier, who has represented the Estonia senior national team since 2011, is an experienced goal scorer whose diverse career has taken him to play in several countries abroad. Currently playing for Paide Linnameeskond, he has previously featured not only in Estonia but also in Italy, Norway, Scotland, Germany, Sweden, Finland, South Korea, the Netherlands, Thailand and Hong Kong.

Before reaching the senior national team, Anier represented Estonia across multiple youth levels, including the U17 age group, for which he scored two goals in five appearances in 2006.

“When I played in youth national teams myself, I always felt great excitement and a positive sense of tension before big matches. Even though my career has been long, I still remember that feeling very clearly. Those were the games that inspired me and had a significant impact on shaping my career and life,” said Anier.

He added: “I am happy that Estonian youngsters have the opportunity to play against Europe’s strongest teams at a home tournament. I wish all the players the best of success! Give your maximum, fight fully for Estonia and enjoy the whole process, because this could be the beginning of something truly great and life-changing.”

Anier has made 104 appearances and scored 23 goals for the Estonia men’s national team, making him the top scorer among currently active players. In 2025, he was also awarded the Estonian Football Association’s Silver Badge of Merit.

The UEFA European Under-17 Championship finals, featuring Estonia’s national team of players born in 2009 and later, will take place from 25 May to 7 June. Matches will be played in Tallinn at A. Le Coq Arena, Kadriorg Stadium and Kalev Central Stadium, as well as at Rakvere City Stadium.
