Legacy

The spectacular UEFA Women’s U17 Championship provides an opportunity to popularize women’s football and thereby create a tournament legacy, i.e. a permanent value, that supports the development of women’s football in Estonia.

Two main directions have been established for the process of creating a legacy: to increase the number of both amateur players and female coaches and to increase the professional competence of female coaches.

Increasing the number of amateur players

  • Throughout the year, Estonian FA conducts inter-school football tournaments, football festivals and school visits in cooperation with clubs. Activities are aimed at girls from first to ninth grade;
  • During the Women’s U17 Championship, a big football festival is organized in each city of the tournament – Tallinn, Tartu and Võru – before a match day;
  • In 2024, Estonian FA aims to kick off a girls’ U9 league.

Increasing the number of female coaches and increasing their professional competence

  • For the first time, three potential female educators will participate in the national football coach education system;
  • An education programme will begin in April, which is specially created and adapted for future female coaches. The course gives future coaches an initial overview of the profession and is free for all participants.
