VIDEO│37 female coaches started their studies as part of the final tournament legacy project
The women’s EJL D coaches qualification course kicked off last week as part of the legacy project for the UEFA Women’s U17 Championship in May and is therefore free for participants.
As one of the major goals of the legacy project is to recruit and train new female coaches in addition to increasing the number of female players, the EJL D course for women is one of the activities in fulfilling the goal.
During the five-day course, future female coaches will gain initial knowledge of the coaching profession and the specifics of children’s football. A total of 37 women participate in the course, whose first day of study took place on April 14, and the study will continue this week and the coming week.
One of the educators of the course is Kärt Mere, who says that the increase in the number of female coaches could have a direct effect on the increase in the number of female players. “Thanks to the final tournament, our girls will be able to see football much more, and the female coaches who participate in the free course could be the ones who will be raising our future. With this, we will create an even bigger football in Estonia,” said Mere.
In the spring of 2023, Estonia will host a major event for girls’ football: the European champion of the Under-17 age group will be determined at the final tournament held here. The final tournament will officially kick off on May 14, when the first group matches will be held. The tournament will culminate in the final match on May 26, which will be played at Lilleküla Stadium, the national stadium of Estonia.
After Round 2 of qualifying that took place in spring, eight teams progressed to the final tournament in Estonia. At the draw event on April 13, the participants were divided into two groups of four: Estonia, Spain, Germany and Switzerland compete in Group A, while Sweden, Poland, England and France compete in Group B. Estonia will play its first match at the UEFA Women’s U17 Championship on May 14 at 19.00 when they face Switzerland at Lilleküla stadium.
Tickets for the tournament are available at Piletilevi.
