Nearly 11,000 spectators visited the youth final tournament in Estonia
From May 14 to 26, the UEFA Women’s’ U17 Championship final tournament was held in Estonia for the first time, which was visited by 10,756 spectators on fifteen game days.
The match that brought the most spectators to the stadium took place on May 26 at the Lilleküla stadium, when 3,179 people visited the final match of the European Championship between Spain and France. This game marks the largest number of spectators in any women’s football match in Estonia ever.
According to the general secretary of the Estonian Football Association, Anne Rei, the organizers were satisfied with the audience’s interest. “One of the goals of hosting the final tournament was to popularize women’s football in Estonia. More than ten thousand pairs of eyes saw the two-week tournament from the stands and it gives a good boost to the development of this area,” said Rei.
The tournament, which took place in three cities, was watched by 6,641 pairs of eyes at Lilleküla Stadium, 1,217 at Kadrioru, 1,599 at Tartu Tamme Stadium and 1,299 pairs of eyes at the Võru Sports Center grandstand.
“I thank all the stadiums for their good cooperation. Together, we showed that Estonian football stadiums are ready to organize a high-level international tournament,” said Rei.
The tournament, which took place in Tallinn, Tartu and Võru, was televised in 32 countries via an international broadcast, and people also had the opportunity to follow the live broadcast on the UEFA.tv website.
France was crowned as the winner of the Women’s U17 Championship final tournament for the first time ever.
